Eagle Lake Farabout Peninsula Coalition

The Farabout Peninsula Coalition represents a wide range of stakeholders including: Eagle Lake First Nation, permanent and seasonal residents, the commercial fishery, recreational users and tourism. the peninsula is located on Eagle Lake in Northwestern Ontario NEAR THE CITY OF DRYDEN.

Our Mission

We have been working for 10 years to save an environmentally special and sensitive area in Northwest Ontario from a clear-cut of trees being considered by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (OMNRF), in collaboration with the Dryden Forest Management Company (a consortium of local loggers).

Why It Matters

There will be substantial adverse effects of a clear-cut of trees on the peninsula to fish and wildlife species and their habitats. It will also negatively affect local tourist lodge businesses. Permanent and seasonal residents with property nearby the peninsula are concerned about the quality of their drinking water. Eagle Lake first nation considers the peninsula and its isthmus to be of historical significance and oppose a clear-cut of trees.
